The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in language has transformed the way we learn and
teach language offering unprecedented opportunities for national development. The paper
explores the impact of AI in language education and national development, highlighting the
potential benefits and challenges of AI powered Language learning tools. AI driven language
learning platforms, virtual assistants and chatbots have made language education more
accessible, prominence, personalized and engaging. These tools can help address the shortage of
language teachers, resources and infrastructure particularly in developing countries like Nigeria.
Moreover, AI-powered language education can enhance language proficiency, cultural
comprehension and communication skills, essentially for global competitiveness and national
development. However, the adoption of AI in language education also raises concerns about job
displacements, bias and data privacy. This papers argues that policy makers, educators and
stakeholders must collaborate to harness the potentials of AI in language while addressing these
challenges. While language is seen as the tool with which human beings express their feelings and
communicate effectively with one another, AI still played a vital role for language education and
national development. This paper concludes that AI powered language education can drive
national development by improving language proficiency, promoting cultural exchange and
promoting economic opportunities. To achieve this, Nigeria must invest in AI infrastructure,
develop AI literacy among educators and create policies that support the integration of AI in
language education.
