Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative force in global economies, offering
opportunities to address developmental challenges and drive sustainable growth. In Nigeria, where
economic diversification and youth unemployment remain critical concerns, AI education defined
here as the independent variable presents a strategic pathway to empower the workforce, foster
innovation, and enhance national productivity, thereby driving sustainable economic development as
the dependent variable. This paper is a conceptual study that synthesises current literature, secondary
data, and case studies to explore how AI education can strategically bridge the skills gap (mediating
variable) and overcome infrastructure and policy constraints (moderating variables). The study
highlights how targeted AI literacy and technical training programs can equip Nigerian youth with
skills for high-demand sectors like technology, agriculture, and healthcare. It also addresses
challenges such as infrastructure deficits, digital divides, and policy gaps that hinder AI education
adoption. The findings suggest that strategic investments in AI education, supported by
publicprivate partnerships, can catalyse inclusive economic growth, reduce inequality, and position
Nigeria as a competitive player in the global digital economy.
